Terms of Service
Last updated: September 2026
1. About Run Well
Run Well ("we", "us", "our") makes a running app for iPhone and Apple Watch. By using it, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree with them, please don't use it.
There used to be a companion website; it was retired in August 2026. These terms cover the app.
2. This Is Not Medical Advice
Run Well is a training tool, not a healthcare provider. Everything it produces — training plans, paces, readiness scores and recovery estimates — is general information for healthy adults, and none of it is medical advice, diagnosis or treatment.
Talk to a doctor before starting a new training programme, particularly if you have a heart condition, a history of injury, are pregnant, are returning from illness, or are managing any ongoing medical condition. If you feel chest pain, severe shortness of breath, dizziness or faintness while running, stop and seek medical attention. Do not use this service in place of professional care, and do not delay getting care because of something the app told you.
3. Everything Here Is Software
Your plan, your paces, your readiness score and every suggestion the iOS app makes are produced by formulas, not by a person. They are estimates built from the data available, and estimates can be wrong. Use your own judgement — you know how you feel, and the app is working from numbers.
The app never changes your training on its own. Anything it proposes has to be confirmed by you before it takes effect.
No artificial intelligence decides your training. Every number above — your plan, your paces, your readiness score, whether to ease off today — comes from a formula running on your own device, which means it is reproducible and explainable, but also that it only knows what you and Apple Health have told it. It cannot see that you slept badly on a couch, or that the hill you ran was into a headwind.
The app has an optional AI coach you can talk to for conversation and explanation. It doesn't decide anything — it uses the same numbers described above and a language model to phrase a reply. See our Privacy Policy for exactly what a message to the coach sends and to whom.
4. Routes and Running Outdoors
Run Well lets you draw and save running routes, shows them on a map, and estimates their distance and elevation. Route data comes from third-party mapping providers and from your own drawing. We do not inspect, verify or vouch for any route.
A route shown in the app may cross roads with traffic, follow paths that are unlit, unsafe, closed, flooded, private property, or that do not exist on the ground at all. Distances and elevation are approximate. Conditions change with weather, season, time of day and construction, and the app knows none of that.
You are responsible for your own safety when you run. Choose routes you judge to be safe, obey traffic laws and signage, stay aware of your surroundings, and don't follow directions on a screen into a road, a hazard, or anywhere you aren't permitted to be. We are not liable for any injury, loss, damage, trespass or other harm arising from your use of a route shown, generated, saved or suggested by the service.
5. Apple Health and Location
With your permission, the iOS app reads workout, heart rate, heart rate variability, resting heart rate, respiratory rate, sleep, VO₂ max and date of birth data from Apple Health, and uses your location for weather conditions and for building routes. You can refuse or withdraw either permission in iOS Settings at any time; the app will keep working with less to go on.
We never use health or location data for advertising, and we never sell it. See our privacy policy for exactly what is collected, where it is stored and what leaves your device.
6. Your Account and Your Data
There is no account and no login. Your training data is stored on your device and, if you have iCloud enabled, in your own private iCloud storage, which we cannot read. Deleting the app and its iCloud data removes it — we hold no copy to delete on your behalf.
7. Gear Recommendations and Commission
Run Well earns affiliate commission when you buy gear through links in the app. This is disclosed wherever products appear. It costs you nothing extra.
Gear is somewhere you choose to go in the app, not something pushed at you — nothing recommends a purchase unprompted. We don't stock, ship, or stand behind any product shown — prices, availability and descriptions come from the retailer, and your purchase is a contract between you and them.
8. Race Listings
Race information comes from third-party race directories. Dates, distances, prices and registration links can be out of date or wrong. Always confirm details with the race organiser before registering or travelling. We are not the organiser and are not responsible for any race.
9. Acceptable Use
You agree not to misuse the service — for example by attempting to reverse-engineer it, scrape it, resell it, overload our systems, or use it to build a competing product. We may suspend or terminate access for anyone who violates these terms.
10. Availability
Run Well is provided as-is and may change, break, or become unavailable. Features may be added or removed. We may stop offering the service entirely. We'll give reasonable notice where we can, but we don't guarantee uptime, and you should not rely on the service being available at any particular moment.
11. Limitation of Liability
Run Well is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any injury, illness, death, loss, damage, or expense arising out of or relating to your use of the service — including any training plan, pace, readiness score, route, race listing or product recommendation it produces, and including anything that happens to you while running.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim relating to the service is limited to the amount you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim, which for a free service is zero. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain limitations, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
12. Assumption of Risk
Running carries inherent risk of injury. By using Run Well you acknowledge that you take on that risk yourself, that you are responsible for deciding whether any given session is appropriate for you on any given day, and that you will stop when your body tells you to — regardless of what the plan says.
13. Children
Run Well is not intended for anyone under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, email us and we will delete it.
14. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Connecticut, without regard to its conflict of law rules. Any dispute arising from these terms or from your use of the service will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Connecticut, and you consent to their jurisdiction.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they last changed. Continued use of the service after changes are posted means you accept the updated terms.
